The formula
The percentage is the marks you scored as a share of the maximum:
Percentage = Obtained ÷ Total × 100
For example, if you scored 420 out of 500:
- Calculation = 420 ÷ 500 × 100 = 84%

A caveat on aggregates
For a multi-subject percentage, add all obtained marks and all maximum marks before dividing — averaging individual subject percentages can give a slightly different figure when subjects carry different maximums. Some boards also apply weightings or grace marks that a plain percentage does not capture, so use your official result where it exists.
